Embossing & Debossing
Embossing and debossing are the processes of creating either raised or recessed relief images and designs in paper and other materials. An embossed pattern is raised against the background, while a debossed pattern is sunken into the surface of the material. These printing methods are used to add texture to key design elements and help that print stand out.
UV coating produces high levels of gloss, vivid color and vibrant detail. In UV printing, specially formulated inks are exposed to ultra-violet (UV) radiation, which causes them to harden instantly on top of the substrate. A UV coating provides superior protection.
Varnish can be thought of as a colorless ink. Varnish can be applied during the print process from a dedicated print unit on the press or as a second coat. Varnish can create a gloss, dull, or stain effect while protecting the color ink.
Aqueous coatings are fast-drying, water-based, protective sealants particularly resistant to smudges and fingerprints. Aqueous formulations afford greater protection than varnish and have gloss characteristics that fall between varnish and UV coatings.
Laminates are spread over the paper in liquid or film form. This coating provides excellent protection from water and is often used in menus or book covers.
